Ah, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd. Or is it the other way round? For a circus or carnival, the center of the action is the midway, the central area where the sideshows and amusements are located. This 30” x 40” poster dates from the 1930s–’40s when Hatch printed thousands of posters for traveling circuses. This one is a personal favorite of Hatch Show Print manager Jim Sherraden. He appreciates the poster’s use of “negative space,” which creates not only the runway in the foreground but also the tent space in the background. Almost existential in nature. Printed on acid-free paper for durability.
