Detailed Description
Half a decade after his variety show on ABC ended, Johnny Cash began hosting an annual Christmas special for CBS, bringing a down-home (and frequently more reverent) element to the body of holiday specials made popular by the likes of Andy Williams and Bing Crosby.
This DVD box set brings together all four Johnny Cash Christmas Specials from 1976 to 1979. From these we get an extended, entertaining look at Johnny midway between the comeback popularity of his Folsom Prison and San Quentin live albums of the late 1960s and his stunning rebirth in the early 1990s. This late 1970s incarnation is the Johnny Cash many people think of first.
Included here are some 60 performances by Johnny and June and guests such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, the Carter Family, Barbara Mandrell, Tom T. Hall, Merle Travis, Kris Kristofferson, and Roy Clark, to name a few.
Housed in an attractive slipcase, this set is a perfect gift for the casual fan and fervent collector alike.
