Night Train To Nashville: Music City Rhythm & Blues 1945-1970 Volume Two (CD)

Price: $19.98Member Price: $17.98

Detailed Description

The follow-up to the Grammy-winning collection Night Train to Nashville includes more classic recordings from Music City’s heyday as a hotbed of rhythm & blues activity. Compiled by the staff of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the recordings demonstrate the fluid borders and frequent collaborations that connect R&B and country music. There are interesting examples of country songs that became R&B hits (Esther Phillips’s “Release Me”) and R&B songs that became country hits (Bernard Hardison’s “Too Much,” Freddie North’s “She’s All I Got”). As with the first set, volume two keeps the focus on Nashville-based artists, adding selected recordings made in Nashville by celebrated out-of-towners such as Clyde McPhatter and John Coltrane (as a member of Gay Crosse’s band). The compilation includes a live track never before heard on record (The Imperials’ “Lucky Lou”) and a thirty-two-page booklet with extensive liner notes and rare photos.
